Hello Yellow Jackets!

My name is Amara Alexander, and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as the Instructional Leader at Orchard Knob Middle School. I see myself as a teacher and facilitator who works to empower teachers and students. I have been an educator for 15 years, teaching at elementary and middle school levels. First, I taught in Madison, Alabama as a 6th-grade science teacher and a 5th-grade English Language Arts teacher. Then, I relocated to Tennessee in 2018 to pursue my ‘dream job’ as an elementary STEM teacher.

As a life-long learner, I enjoy growing professionally. That has led me to participate in a variety of opportunities, such as the Honeywell Educator at Space Camp, the American Geoscience Institute/ExxonMobil STEM Teacher Leadership Academy, and the STEM Fellowship (Cohort 7) for the Public Education Foundation in Chattanooga, TN.

I am a Milken Educator and served as a 2019-2020 Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellow at the Library of Congress. Before coming to Orchard Knob, I served as an Assistant Principal at Woodmore Elementary.

I am a proud graduate of Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University earning both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Elementary Education. I earned an Educational Leadership Degree from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and I am currently pursuing a Doctoral degree from the University of South Carolina.

I want teachers and students to feel inspired, motivated and equipped with the instructional resources to lead them to reach their academic and personal goals. I believe that communication and relationships serve as the foundation for success.  I look forward to working with our students, parents, faculty, staff, and community to make this year one filled with achievement and growth.

Here’s to a phenomenal school year! #WeAreOKMS
