GEAR UP and UTC Bring Science Alive

for OKMS Students

GEAR UP and the UTC Department of Chemistry & Physics teamed up with Orchard Knob Middle science teacher Ward Bogolin to create a lab day for 24 seventh graders. The students worked with UTC students, staff and professors to conduct eight different physics and chemistry experiments in UTC’s main science lab. Orchard Knob’s students mixed up chemicals to make elephant toothpaste, measured blood platelets using a laser and turned a regular magnet into a superconductor. The Orchard Knob students worked hard on each experiment and impressed the UTC scientists with their diligence and interest in the activities.
