Jonathan Farlett - Bible History/Football Coach

Hello My Name Is...

Jonathan Farlett

I am entering my second year at Orchard Knob Middle School teaching Bible History.  I graduated from Lee University with a bachelors degree in Humanities with an emphasis in Modern and Contemporary Studies and am currently working on my Masters Degree in Secondary Education from the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga.  I am married to my beautiful wife, Amy. My desire at OKMS is to contribute to the community's effort to develop a culture that empowers and positively transforms our students, families, and community to reach their fullest potential. In Bible History class, we study the Bible from a historically, culturally, and religiously neutral perspective. We study the Bible's impact on history, culture, literature, and government. In 6th grade, your student will study the book of Genesis. In 7th and 8th grade, your student will study the book of Exodus. I believe that studying the Bible develops a level of cultural literacy that is necessary for a well rounded education. I also believe that in studying the Bible, we encounter lessons that help us in our character and moral development. The Bible has impacted every aspect of culture. In studying it, we learn just how much our culture and society has been shaped by it.

Additionally, it is my second year serving as the Head Football Coach at Orchard Knob.  I have worked as a Middle School Football and Basketball Coach for 7 years with 4 years experience as a Head Coach. In their 2020 season, the Orchard Knob Yellow Jackets finished second in the Hamilton County Athletic Conference's Eastern Division with a 3-3 divisional record, finishing 3-4 overall. The Yellow Jacket Football Program strives to build lifelong virtues such as character, integrity, selflessness, teamwork, self-control, and discipline on and off the field. Our football culture is best described by the acronym S.W.A.R.M which means: Selflessness, Warriors, A Family, Respect, Motivated. We strive to live out the shared unified mission of Orchard Knob of "One Family, One Destiny". We are looking forward to building on our performance in 2020.
