HCS Educators to be Inducted into American School Band Directors’ AssociationChattanooga, Tenn. (May 4, 2021) -- Hamilton County Schools announced today that Molly Epperson, band director at East Hamilton High School, and Matt McHenry, band director at Hixson High School, have been accepted to the American School Band Directors’ Association.

Members of the ASBDA must be nominated and sponsored by a peer who is a current member of the ASBDA. Potential members must demonstrate a high level of experience, excellent moral character, and quality of musicianship.

“Giving our students access to excellent related arts teachers is essential to their success,” said Claire Stockman, district content lead for Visual and Performing Arts. “This national recognition of Mrs. Epperson and Mr. McHenry reaffirms our team of talented arts educators, and we are honored to celebrate their accomplishments.”

Epperson, a graduate of Ooltewah High School, began her career with Hamilton County Schools as band director of Central High School. In 2009, she joined the staff at East Hamilton Middle/High School. Epperson serves as chair of Hamilton County Schools’ All-County Honor Band event every February, which involves more than 200 students in four ensembles.

McHenry has been the band director at Hixson High School since 2005. He previously taught music in the Lincoln County schools and served as a graduate teaching assistant with the MTSU Band of Blue. His primary instruments are trumpet and F horn. He was a 1998 member of Spirit of Atlanta Drum & Bugle Corps.
